The Working Group
The WD-SA is led by a Working Group (WG) comprised of members from organisations representative of sectors. These include national and local government, the private sector, civil society, trade unions, water boards, and academic/ research organisations. Recognising the potential for conflict amongst stakeholders, all members of the WD-SA Working Group worked together to formulate a Code of Conduct, and they have all signed they will abide by it. |

The Working Group meets every two to three months to provide strategic guidance to the research and other activities implemented by a paid full time Coordinator, with support from a Project Administrator. Administrative issues are delegated to a Management Committee comprised of five of its members. The minutes of all Working Group meetings to-date can be obtained below.
The WD-SA is funded by Irish Aid, and funds are administered by the Environmental Monitoring Group (an NGO based in Cape Town). Members of the Working Group contribute their time as well as costs related to their participation. Seed funding from Heinrich Boll Foundation helped the WD-SA get started.
Working Group Minutes
1. Deciding how to work together and what to examine
During this period, the Working Group drafted reframing questions, agreed on a problem statement, and formulated a Code of Conduct to which members subscribed.
2. Obtaining project funding and hiring a Coordinator
During this period, the Working Group specified its objectives, planned its activities, and prepared a funding proposal. Once it obtained funding from IrishAid, it worked together to identify and hire a Coordinator accepted by all members.
